
Chief Climate Data Systems Architect, Asheville, NC
Global Science & Technology, Inc (GST), a growing high technology company, is looking for an experienced Data Systems Architect for a NOAA project located at their National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) offices in Asheville, NC. Help us support the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA’s) efforts to improve our understanding of climate change and its potential impact on our planet.
GST will provide a relocation allowance for qualified individuals.
Job Description
As a Data Systems Architect you will lead a new project in the NOAA NCDC that will develop a program to produce Climate products. The challenge is to identify requirements, potential products, and algorithms and architect and develop a system that will move climate data from research to operations making climate data and products available to users. The Architect:
· Provides high-level architectural expertise to managers and technical staff.
· Develops architectural products and deliverables for the enterprise and operational business lines.
· Develops strategy of system and the design infrastructure necessary to support that strategy.
· Advises on selection of technological purchases with regards to processing, data storage, data access, and applications development. Sets standards for the client/server relational database structure for the organization (SQL, ORACLE, SYBASE, etc.).
· Advises of feasibility of potential future projects to management.
Background & Experience
Candidates should possess a M.S. or PhD in Earth Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or related field. At least 10-15 years professional engineering experience, with at least 7-10 years in program or project management positions is required.
Minimum required:
· 10 + year’s experience with geospatial data
· Design and analysis of real-time data system or software architecture
· Professional experience with large satellite geophysical data processing and reprocessing projects s. Proven experience leading a project through NOAA Project Key Decision Points (KDP) (or equivalent).
Desired:
· Experience with Earth observing satellite data and related products
· Knowledge and experience related to the application of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) in development and integration of data software systems.
· Experience related to Geospatial Systems software strongly preferred.
· NOAA/NASA/USGS experience
· A professional certification in program/project management preferred.
