Climate Data Records Program

Valued More Than $10 Million, Project Will Help Climate Prediction

Fairmont, WV — Global Science & Technology, Inc. (GST) is proud to announce it will support the Climate Data Record (CDR) Program for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) located in Asheville, NC.

The CDR Program seeks to provide a comprehensive set of size- and time-relevant records for the detection, analysis, and prediction of climate change. The climate records created would come from remotely sensed and in situ measurements. Ultimately, the program's goal is to help better inform the public and enable them to plan and respond to climate-related events in a more effective and timely manner.

"The CDR is critically important to NOAA's climate goal," said GST President Chieh-san Cheng. "We have a distinct understanding of these goals and are honored to have the opportunity to support the National Climate Data Center's CDR Program."

NCDC is the world's largest active archive of climate data. NCDC produces numerous climate publications and responds to data requests from all over the world. NCDC operates the World Data Center for Meteorology co-located at NCDC in Asheville, NC, and the World Data Center for Paleoclimatology located in Boulder, CO.

NCDC supports a three-tier national climate services support program. Program partners include: NCDC, regional climate centers, and state climatologists.

GST will provide CDR program/project management and project control and oversight services, system and product development, and NOAA program support.

"Additionally," explained Cheng, "GST will provide science and technology support that includes coordination and communication services across NOAA, the government, and external stakeholders and communities as authorized by the Government; science and technology subject matter expert services; and meeting, workshop, and review support."

The contract has a one-year base period, with two one-year option periods. The total contract value is $10,307,788.80. The contract will enable Global Science & Technology to add up to 25 jobs at NCDC's Asheville location.
