GST’s CEO and President Chieh-san Cheng recently announced a contract with the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) to develop Weather Satellite (WeatherSat) sensor data processing algorithms, perform calibration/validation of the sensor data, and provide image processing in support of the AFRL small satellite weather mission. WeatherSat will address critical capability gaps in collecting global weather data and collect multispectral images (or Raw Data Records – RDR) in the visible and infrared bands from a dawn-dusk sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of 850km. GST will work with the Air Force science team to ensure a successful mission by producing Sensor Data Records (SDRs) and Environmental Data Records (EDRs) from RDRs for use by the end users such as the 557th Weather Wing.

"This work will enhance GST’s capability in algorithms development for satellite operations and data processing as well as with the government’s evolving cloud services architecture", said Cheng, "and I appreciate the hard work of all the GST team members who made this award possible."
